Our wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with our Lord on March 2nd, 2013. Betty Jean Engaldo, age 83, passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was born August 2nd, 1929 to Ivan and Neva (Monn) May in West Allis, WI. She attended Mt. Carroll and Savanna schools graduating from Savanna Township High School with the class of 1947. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Billy Engaldo, on April 3rd, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna.
Together they raised five children. She had been a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and also St. John's Catholic Women. She also belonged to the Tops Club and enjoyed the camaraderie of being with the girls. She had been a stay at home mom until her children were all in school. She then worked at Eaton Corporation until 1975 when she helped her husband manage the Savanna Marina for 15 years.
When her health was good she enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling to visit her kids. As her health began to limit these activities she enjoyed playing cards, watching games shows, reading and doing word-search puzzles. Her greatest joy in the world was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. All the craziness of family gatherings brought smiles to her face. Her pet dogs were a major part of her life as well. She spent her life nurturing everyone she loved including the special relationship with her dogs.
She will forever be in the hearts of those she leaves behind which includes her husband Billy of nearly 65 years, her children Carol (Michael) Nesbitt, Gary (Gayle) Engaldo, Joan Engaldo, Paul (Jenn) Engaldo, and Pat Engaldo. Her 16 grandchildren Erica (Shawn) Rathje, Jennifer (Seth) Green, Kateri (Travis Mowery) Nesbitt, Andy (Barbie) Engaldo, Kelly Engaldo, Anthony (Amy) Engaldo, Codey (Michael Wathall) Brown, Zach (Lina) Floding, Shannon (Derek) Eizenga, Ashley (Rick LaBorn) Engaldo, Eric (Shelby McBride) Engaldo, Brittany Engaldo, Christopher Engaldo, Michelle (Gordy) Hartman, Tara (Chad) Ferris, Jake (Jessica Hamling) Engaldo, and 28 great grandchildren. Her parents Ivan and Neva May and her mother and father-in-law Jake and Mildred Engaldo will be waiting for her in heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, with Father Dennis Atto officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
