Betty I. Bailey, age 87, of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, September 18, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in the Lost Mound Cemetery, rural Hanover, Illinois. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Argo Fay United Methodist Church in Betty’s memory. Betty was born on November 21, 1921, the daughter of Clem and Esther (Plattenberger) Hoy in Thomson, Illinois. She graduated from York Community High School, Thomson with the Class of 1939. Betty married Lyle Bailey on March 26, 1940. Lyle died on March 3, 1986.
Betty was the manager of the school lunch program for Savanna Schools for 13 years. She was a member of Argo Fay Methodist Church, Argo Fay and was active with the local Parent Teacher Association, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts.
Betty is survived by her son, Gary (Carolyn) Bailey of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; one daughter, Sandra A. (Harry) Miller of East Wenatchee, Washington; three grandchildren, Nicole Elizabeth (Mark) Weiberg, Gregory Paul, and Douglas Paul; two great grandchildren, Kitana McCaige and Maggie Lewis; one brother, Hal D. Hoy of Thomson, Illinois; two sisters, Laura Jensen of Humbird, Wisconsin, and Mildred Stiles of Thomson, Illinois. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; and one brother, John Hoy.
