Bettie Manning, age 82 of Chadwick, Illinois, died Thursday, June 22, 2006 at home. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006 at SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. Inurnment will be in the Chadwick Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Bettie’s memory.
Bettie was born February 14, 1924 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth (Meurer) Nelson. When she was young, Bettie’s parents died in a car accident and she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Clay (Laura) Schaefer. She married Edward Manning on November 13, 1943 in Monterey Park, California.
Bettie loved the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll and the Red Hat Society Group. Bettie very much enjoyed the camaraderie of her breakfast group friends. She had worked at the Chadwick Cheese Factory, Chadwick, and Elkay Manufacturing, Lanark, Illinois.
Bettie will be deeply missed by her daughter, Janet (Neal) Queckboerner of Chadwick; a granddaughter, Kris (Tim) Lyons and four great grandchildren, Reilly, Paige, Griffin and Haley.
Her husband; a son, Edward Manning Jr.; a brother Earl Nelson II, and her parents precede Bettie in death.
