Beth Elaine Turney, age 89, Mt. Carroll, Illinois formerly of Chadwick, Illinois, died on Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Burial will take place in the Chadwick Cemetery, Chadwick. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Chadwick. Memorials may be given to the Chadwick Fire Department in Beth’s memory.
Beth was born on May 23, 1924, the daughter of Chester and Bertha (Kness) Kahler in Fairhaven Township. She attended Chadwick School’s. Beth married Paul Turney on April 19, 1942 at the Black Oak Parsonage, rural Chadwick.
Beth was a homemaker who treasured taking care of her family. She was a longtime member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick. She taught Sunday School for many years and served as the church organist for twenty years. Beth was a member of the Chadwick American Legion Auxiliary for fifty-nine years and during WWII she was a ground observer for the United States Air Force. She was also a 4-H Leader for fifteen years. Beth enjoyed fishing, reading, creating crafts, cooking and baking. From the time Beth was ten years old, she was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all, Beth loved spending time with her family and friends.
Beth will be dearly missed by her husband of seventy-one years, Paul of Mt. Carroll; five children, Gary (Pat) Turney of Chadwick, Mary (DeWayne) Aude of Chadwick, Margaret (Tom) Diehl of Rockton, Illinois, Jennifer VanDeVelde of Papillion, Nebraska and Julie (Edwin) Logue of Mesa, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; Fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Turney of Mt. Morris, Illinois and Frances (William) Schryver of Milledgeville, Illinois.Beth was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Turney; one son in-law, Vince VanDeVelde, and her grand-dog, Tiffiany.
