Beth Ann (Sack) Hitz passed away at her home in Ridott, IL on February 20th, 2024.
She was born in Savanna, IL on July 11th, 1953- the first child of Richard “Dick” Sack and Jean (Trone Sieber) Sack.
Beth grew up in Mt. Carroll with siblings Mark and Laurie and graduated in 1971. She attended Western Illinois University, then moved to Berea, Ohio to attend Baldwin Wallace University- a time she valued so much she joked “When I die, take me to the Department of English. I could haunt those halls forever.” As of this writing that is illegal, so please help wish her there in spirit.
She married in Ohio on April 28th, 1984, and gained her stepchildren Todd, Shanna, and Gwen Surrarrer, with daughter Emma Surrarrer to be born on July 13th, 1989.
In 1994, Beth returned to Mt. Carroll with Emma. While she found happiness in her family, her path led her to sobriety in May of 2000- a path she continued and celebrated for the following 24 years. She found solace in the communities of Alcoholics Anonymous, finding meaning in helping others on the darkest moments of their paths. She touched countless lives and made years long friendships with people all over the world. Her birthday wishes from friends in Iceland and South Africa always came through first, which “tickled her to no end.”.
On June 13th, 2013 Beth married Leonard J. Hitz at their home in German Valley, gaining step-children Len, Anna, and Mary Jo, and grandchildren Marcus and Raven. On July 17th, 2015, Emma welcomed Renly to the world with Beth by her side. Being his “Grammy” meant the world to her, as she meant the world to us.
She is preceded in death by so many that she loved and is survived by so many more.
Remember Beth when the flowers start to peek through the ground, when you bought too many books, when you need to take it one day at a time.
Now and until we are together again, we love you.
There will be a Celebration of Beth's Life from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Kraft Building on the corner of Market and Main Streets in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
