Bernie Hook, age 85, of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois.
Bernie was born May 10, 1925, in Thomson, Illinois, the son of Albert and Bertha (Temple) Hook. He graduated from Thomson High School with the Class of 1943. Bernie proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Nancy Robbins in the Spring of 1965. They later divorced.
Bernie worked construction most of his life. He was a former member of the American Legion in Thomson, Illinois, and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. Bernie was a horse – aholic, especially enjoying horse races.
Bernie is survived by one daughter, Deanna Lynn Soppe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister – in – law, Julienne Hook of Savanna; and many nieces and nephews.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Clara Bergstead; and five brothers, Epa, George, Albert, Raymon, and Robert.
