Bernadine "Bernie" Cornilsen of Miles, Iowa passed away on December 15, 2024 at the age of 91, at the Alverno Nursing Home in Clinton, IA. Visitation will be on December 28, 2024, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, IA. from 9 am to 11 am. A funeral service will follow immediately after the visitation. Burial will be in the Andover, IA. Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Miles Legion. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
Bernie was born on September 23,1933, the daughter of Walter and Lucinda (Schroeder) Eickert. She was a graduate of Goose Lake High School. On January 3, 1953, she married Lyle Cornilsen at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Clinton, IA. Pastor Paul Burgderf officiated. Howard Cornilsen and Geraldine Eickert were witnesses. They were married for 62 years.
Bernie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked at the Voss Grocery store in Byrant, IA for awhile as well as the Sabula Speaker Factory for a few years. She also worked at Eggers General Store in Teeds Grove, IA later in life. She was a member of the Miles Legion. Her homemade peppernuts and wreath Christmas cookies will be missed. She and Lyle loved to watch their sons and grandchildren play sports, especially basketball. They almost never missed a game. She loved to go camping at the South Lake Campground in Sabula.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Gregg (Dee) Cornilsen of Clinton and Gordon (Kendra) Cornilsen of Miles; six grandchildren Joel, Claire, Kurtis, Jordan, Mallory and Kaleb; 7 great grandchildren Creighton, Kamryn, Wren, Tenley, Penny, Kayce and Murphie; one sister Joan Paulson, several sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, 2 sisters, 3 brothers and one granddaughter (McKenzie).
Her grandchildren will be pallbearers. Memorials can be made to the Miles Legion, Easton Valley School District or a charity of your choice.
