Barbara F. Schnitzler

January 1, 1934 — January 26, 2014

Barbara Frances Schnitzler, Mt. Carroll, IL. , took Jesus’ hand and entered her Eternal Home on Sunday, January 26. She had been at Presence St. Joseph Provina, Freeport the past two months. Barbara was born January 1,1934 in Thomson, IL., the daughter of William and Mary Halfman Hawk. She was a wonderful cook and baker, had a beautiful smile and never met a stranger.

She attended Thomson Grade School, Oil Valley and Daggett country schools and Chadwick High School. She was united in marriage to Alvin “Boots” Schnitzler on November 8, 1958 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Alvin passed away June 16, 1961. Barbara was a faithful member of S.S. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll where she taught Religious Education to the First Communion Class for several years and was a member of the Ladies Society. She worked at Structo’s, Atwoods and Elkay and was cook at the Carroll County Jail, Good Samaritan Home and restaurants in the community.
She is survived by her daughter Theresa (Russell) Miller; grandsons Kurtis (Breana} Miller and Michael Miller (finance Leilah Odeh); a very special friend Larry Miller; sister Cecilia Zemke, brothers: William (Jeanie) Hawk and Francis Hawk, six nieces and two nephews and their families. She was proceded in death by her husband, parents, sister-in-law Carol Hawk and brother-in-law Leo Zemke. She will be loved and remembered.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll with Father Atto as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.
