Barbara Lynn Sabin, age 77 of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home after a long illness. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth, with Pastor Tiffany Garcea officiating. A visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth First United Methodist Church Choir Music Fund in Barb’s memory.
Barb was born on January 30, 1940, the daughter of Kenneth and Eleanor (Thompson) Extrom in Berwyn, Illinois. She attended Lyons Township High School and graduated with the Class of 1958. Barb earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University in 1962. Barb married John Timothy Sabin on December 16, 1961 in Western Springs, Illinois.
Barb was a homemaker who treasured taking care of her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elizabeth. Barb and her husband, Tim, built a home and retired to rural Elizabeth in 1998. Before retiring, Barb enjoyed working as a secretary for the Darien-Grove Baptist Church and the Naperville Evangelical Free Church. Barb enjoyed antiquing with her husband, Tim, and collecting dolls. Barb loved taking trips, especially to Amish communities and Door County, Wisconsin. Most of all, Barb cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Barb will be dearly missed by her husband, Tim; four children, Steve (Christine) Sabin of Richmond, Virginia, Laura (Dennis) O’Brien of Wheaton, Illinois, Becky (Blake) Carder of Aurora, Illinois, Pam (Seth) Kinne of Leander, Texas; eight grandchildren, Daniel Sabin, Heather Sabin, Matthew Carder, Nathan Kinne, Kevin Carder, Shawn O’Brien, Noah Kinne, and Emma Kinne; one brother, Tom Extrom; and many nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents.
