Barbara Bess Hartman, age 82, of Savanna, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Burial of her cremated remains will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. A memorial fund has been established in Barbara’s memory.
Barbara was born on January 19, 1935, at home in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Krafft) Taylor. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the class of 1952. On February 23, 1958, Barbara married Lyle Hartman at the Savanna Community Church.
Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at many places in the Savanna area for 40 years, retiring from the Savanna City Hospital. She was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll; the Red Hat Society, and NARFE. She was an election judge for many years and in her spare time enjoyed knitting, crafts, needle point, playing cribbage, and in her younger years, bowling. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her family.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her husband of 59 years, Lyle; three children, Susan (Mike) Herman of Pflugerville, Texas, William Hartman of Waterloo, Iowa, Sharon (John) Hartmann of Lusaka, Zambia, Africa; three grandchildren, Caitlin (Joshua) Voigt of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Reese Hartmann of Rockford, Illinois, and Aaron Hartmann of Enid, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her parents.
