Barbara U. Adams, age 95, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna, with Rev. Phillip Bigelow officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Savanna. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society or St. Peter Lutheran Church. Barbara was born on August 8, 1914, in Derinda Center, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel and Anna (Eberle) Schoenhaar. She graduated from Savanna High School with the class of 1934. Barbara married Harry E. Adams on January 12, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2001.Barbara and Harry farmed in the Savanna area for many years and also had a farm in rural Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Barbara was also a longtime Avon representative. She was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, especially violets, baking bread, sewing, and loved animals. Most importantly, Barbara loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them.Barbara is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Connie Georgiu of Elk Grove, California; one granddaughter, Mia Georgiu and her husband Bruce Harland of Oakland, California; two great granddaughters, Dorothea and Willa; two sisters, Lucy Miller of Savanna, and Polly Smith of Lanark, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; two sisters, Katie Shafer and Anna Mennenga; and one brother, Paul Schoenhaar.
