Avelda “Vel” L. Grove, age 83, of Sabula, Iowa, died Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula, Iowa. Reverend Robert Krueger of the Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula will officiate. Memorials may be given to Eagle Point Nursing Center in Avelda’s memory.
Avelda was born October 14, 1922 in Miles, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Sarah (Johnson) Marburger. She attended Sabula area schools. On April 8, 1939, Avelda married Chester E. Grove, Jr. in Des Moines, Iowa. Chester died on May 14, 1996 in Clinton, Iowa.
She loved being a homemaker and raising her children. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her Chihuahua, Pepi. She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Auxillary in Sabula, Iowa.
Avelda is survived by her daughter, Sally (Merle) Carter of DeWitt, Iowa; her son, Chester E. (Helen) Grove III of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Maxine Davids of Sabula, Iowa; and one brother, Eddie Marburger of Sabula, Iowa.
Avelda was preceded in death by her husband, Chester and one sister, Lois Rittmer.
