Augustus Earl Leavens Jr.

Augustus “Gus” Earl Leavens Jr.,73, passed away August 21, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his home. No services will be held at this time.

On October 20, 1950, Gus entered as the son of Augustus and Pauline (Dunstan) Leavens in Hazel Green, WI. It wasn’t long until they had found their way to Savanna, IL, where Gus grew up and attended school. Augustus joined the work force before he could graduate, working various jobs in the factories as well as driving for a garbage disposal company.

Gus married Georgia Wood and they had two children together, Scott and Bobbie Jo, before divorcing. On November 10, 1979, Augustus married the love of his life, Paula Schlecht, and together they had a daughter, Laurie. Gus enjoyed fishing with his family as well as going hunting. One of his recent favorite activities was playing Yahtzee with Paula, even though she won most of the time.

Augustus is survived by his wife, Paula; three sisters, Margie, Donna (Terry) and Linda; three children, Scott Leavens, Bobbie Jo (Clifford) Cupp and Laurie (Steve) Schroeder; ten grandchildren, Scottie, Dakota, Sydney, Ashton, Skyler, Breanna, Kayleigh, Stevie, Kevlar and Remington; and three great grandchildren, Hudson, Autumn, and Brock and one great grandchild on the way.

Gus is preceded in death by his parents, Augustus Sr. and Pauline Leavens; brothers, Cliff and Mark; and his best friend, Brad Anderson.
