Arthur Pieper, Jr.

Arthur Pieper Jr, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away October 1, 2015 at Midwest Medical Center, Galena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Hanover, Illinois. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A memorial fund has been established in Arthur’s memory.
Arthur was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Helen (Zimmer) Pieper, Sr.. Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his time in the service, he was a police officer with the Chicago Police Department for over 30 years. He worked as a Homicide Detective for the last five years of his career and retired with the rank of Sergeant in 1989. While in Chicago, he also owned and operated many restaurants and was part owner of Salvage One, which was an architectural artifacts warehouse. In 1989 Arthur moved to Hanover where he met his wife, Luanne Sullivan. Art and Luanne spent 25 years together, with Art making an honest woman of Luanne on December 17, 2012.
Arthur was an active member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a gourmet cook (cream soups being his specialty) and volunteered for several years to cook for the annual Cook County Sheriff Fundraiser. Art loved to socialize and throw parties. He never shied away from a good argument and as his friends will fondly recall, he quite often interjected a “blum” or two into his conversations. Arthur was a caring man and would give you the shirt off of his back. Arthur adored all animals, but especially his dog, Max, and cat, Trixie.
Arthur and Luanne were the love of each others lives and Luanne will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by his sister, Mildred Barrickman of Yakima, Washington; a brother, Wilbur Pieper of Chicago, Illinois; his brother-in-law Tommy (Gerri) Sullivan of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and his sister-in-law, Jackie (Jerry) Crawford of Dubuque, Iowa; and nieces and nephews, Jill (Chuck) Hall, Colleen (Jim) Wagner, Maureen (Ross) Willkom, Jeremiah Sullivan (Krista Hopper), Michaela, Joseph and Christina Sullivan, Kristin Crawford (husband, Duncan Stephens) and Caitlyn Crawford.
Arthur is preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Leo Pfaff, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry Joe and Virginia Sullivan; his brother-in-law, Bob Barrickman; and his niece Joy Crowe.
