Arthur F. Banowetz, age 89, of Preston, Iowa, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice of Bettendorf, Iowa surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston with Father Don Plamondon as Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Sugar Creek in Rural Preston. A Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston. A Scripture Wake Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2007 at the Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. one hour prior to the service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. A Memorial Fund has been established in Art’s memory.
Art was born on September 16,1918 the son of William and Magdelena Zeiser Banowetz. Art attended Riggs Country School. On February 16, 1942 Art married Marie Michel. Marie preceded him in death on March 16, 1995, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Art lived and farmed in the Sugar Creek area most of his life. After his retirement from farming, he was employed at Kunau Implement in Preston and later Feeders Supply in Preston. Art was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston where he was a volunteer for many years. He was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and a fifty year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years. Art was a lover of nature, he enjoyed hunting and trapping in his younger years, and had a keen eye for finding Indian arrowheads. Art also enjoyed writing anecdotal stories about life as it was in the early years.
Art will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by three daughters Betty and husband Loran Burken of Clinton, Iowa, Jane and husband Dean O’Tool of Ida Grove, Iowa, Marlene and husband David Cain, of Dixon, Illinois; two sons, Dale Banowetz of Clinton, Iowa and Glen Banowitz and wife Pam of Charlotte, Iowa; twelve grandchildren who will be his pallbearers, Barb Easley, Mike and Marty Burken, Adina Pursley, Matt, Katie and Becky Banowetz, Jeff and Brian O’Tool, Michelle Stone and Mary and Angela Cain; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Loretta Petersen of Clinton.
