Arthur C. Ferris, age 79, of Savanna, Illinois, died July 1, 2005 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, Illinois. Father Moises Apostol will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Savanna. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, with a Scripture Wake Service at 7:45 p.m..
Art was born in Mt. Carroll, Illinois on February 24, 1926, the son of Hoyt and Emma (Bittner) Ferris. He attended the Savanna schools. Art married Carolyn L. Lema on September 29, 1943 in Savanna. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Art worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in Savanna; also the Savanna Army Depot as a pipe-fitter for nine years until his retirement; he worked at Savanna Appliance and Melendy’s Plumbing and Heating for over twenty-five years. He was an active Savanna Volunteer Fireman for thirty-five years.
Art was a member of the Savanna American Legion Post #74, the Knights of Columbus and Savanna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2223, and the Boilermakers Union of Illinois. He was always available to lend a hand to family and friends. Helping people was something Art loved to do.
Arthur will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Carolyn; three sons, Jerry Ferris of Savanna, Ronald (Debbie) Ferris of Savanna, Todd Ferris of South Beloit, Illinois; one daughter, Nancy (“Bud”) Mix of Savanna; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren. Art is preceded in death by his parents.
