Arnold L. Fjelstad, age 77, of Chadwick, Illinois, died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at Good Samaritan Nursing Facility in Mount Carroll, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chadwick, Illinois. Reverend Marcia Strahl will officiate. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Chadwick, Illinois. Burial will be in the Chadwick Cemetery in Chadwick, Illinois. A general memorial fund has been established in Arnold's memory.
Arnold was born on June 30, 1929, the son of Wilhelm and Elsie "Mary" (Bolstad) Fjelstad in Ferryville, Wisconsin. Arnold married Berniece L. Arnold on November 26, 1948 in Ferryville, Wisconsin. Berniece passed away on November 29, 2003. In his younger years, he worked for Beirman and Larson Chevrolet in Chadwick, Illinois and later for Kampmeier GMC in Mount Carroll, Illinois as a Mechanic. He was the owner and operator of Arnie's Repair Shop in Chadwick for 34 years.
Arnold was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Chadwick Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the Chadwick Commercial Club. He enjoyed carpentry, camping, fishing and traveling, but most of all he loved visiting with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Rodney (Vicki) Fjelstad of Sterling, Illinois and Randy Fjelstad of Valley, California; two daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Pauley of Milledgeville, Illinois and Catherine (William) Allen of Kingsville, Texas; one brother, Willard (Elaine) Fjelstad of Viroqua, Wisconsin; four sisters, Mildred Fortune of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Myrtle Fortune of Viroqua, Edna Stove of La Crosse and Arlene Bruckner of Rockford, Illinois; nine grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; and one very special friend, Helen Weber of Mount Carroll.
Arnold is preceded in death by his wife, Berniece; one grandson, Beau Fjelstad; three brothers Jules, Clifford and Almen; and one sister, Othelia Johnson.
