It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arnold Clarence. Mussmann Jr. (Arnie, Moose, Jr). Arnold passed away on his birthday June 7, 2026, at his home in Miles, IA. He was born June 7, 1962, in Maquoketa, IA, son to late father Arnold Clarence Mussmann Sr, and mother Linda Lou Griebel Mussmann. Honoring Arnold’s wish, the gift of life was shared with others in need through organ and tissue donation.
A U.S. Army veteran (1981-1985), he proudly served in Caisson Platoon, 1st battalion, 3rd US Infantry at Arlington National Cemetery. In Caisson he was the team leader of the White Horse Squadron. He achieved the rank of Sergeant. He received many citations, achievements and medals including: Special Citation for outstanding performance of duties in support of Victory of Yorktown Bicentennial Celebration, Certificate of achievement for “Exceptionally meritorious achievement while assisting with ceremonies to honor the unknown American”, special citation for outstanding performance of duties 22nd Annual Production of Spirit of America, Good Conduct Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantryman Badge, Expert Qualification Badge with Rifle (M-16), Army Achievement Medal, Expert Qualification Badge with hand grenade, Expert M203 Grenade Launcher.
He graduated in 1980 from East Central High School, Miles, IA, did 1 year of college at Clinton Community College. Worked at many places including: Touch of Class Arabians, The Fireplace Shop, Clinton Engineering and finished off at Preston Meats as a semi-driver.
Arnold loved his family deeply, was a great listener, loved to sit and socialize and spend time outside. He will be remembered for his great strength, big hugs, great smile and his easy comfortability. He had many hobbies which included: gardening, model cars, hot wheels, fishing, bird/animal watching, cooking-grilling, tonka trucks, and spoiling our mini schnauzer, Sophie. He loved to watch really bad movies, and to hang out with friends and family. His newest hobby was learning to play music on various instruments. He was also a proud blood donor.
Arnold was preceded in death by his father Arnold Mussmann Sr. and sister Melissa Lynn Mussmann, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother Linda Griebel, his wife Brenda Blackwell Mussmann, his children, daughter Miranda Mussmann Soto (Nick) and their 3 children: Jaycee Jane, Lillian Lane and Emma Evane, and son Zachary Lane Mussmann and his 3 children: Zoey (Zeke)Anne, Zachary Clarence and Zander Lane and their mother Brittany Ashmore. His siblings: Jeff (Kris) Mussmann and Terry Mussmann. Many Aunts, Uncles and cousins and in-laws.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Preston. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
