Arlie Marie Arno, age 92 of Savanna, Illinois died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A private graveside service will be held at Lower York Cemetery, rural Thomson, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arlie and her family appreciated the care they received at Big Meadows.Arlie was born on June 2, 1922, the daughter of Earl and Anna (Gerhardt) Holman in York Township, rural Thomson. She attended Clinton High School in Clinton, Iowa. Arlie married the love of her life, Leroy E. Arno on December 19, 1940. Leroy passed away February 11, 1986.
Arlie worked at the Savanna Bakery, Eaton Corporation, Savanna and the Savanna Garment Factory. She was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge. Arlie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, traveling, playing cards, cooking and baking. She truly loved fishing when ever she was able. Arlie cherished the time she spent entertaining friends and family and 5 o’clock happy hour on her porch. Most of all, she was a wonderful mom to Dick and Dave and “Nanna” to all.
Arlie is survived by her two sons, Richard (Joyce) Arno of Savanna, David Arno of Savanna; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Lester Holman of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Arlie is preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; two brothers, Lloyd Holman, Earl Holman Jr.; three sisters, Bernice Sour, Gladys Thompson and Pearl Jenks.
