Arlene “Jo” Thompson, age 79, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, at her home. According to her wishes, Jo will be cremated and private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice, 240 North Bluff, Suite 101A, Clinton, Iowa, 52732.
Arlene Joan Thompson was born on June 4, 1931, in Low Moor, Iowa, the daughter of Virtus and Clyda (Wiley) Greve. She graduated from Elvira High School. Jo married Charles R. Thompson and they later divorced.
Jo was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother who cared for her family until her last breath. She was a wonderful cook, known for everything from coleslaw to homemade chicken noodle soup, and fed anyone who happened to be in her home. Jo loved gardening and planting flowers. She spent an endless amount of hours meticulously caring for her yard. Jo enjoyed birds, especially cardinals, dogs, and fishing for catfish.
Jo is survived and lovingly remembered by four sons, Robin (Linda) Thompson of Tipton, Iowa, Chuck Thompson of Clinton, Iowa, Rick (Lisa) Thompson of Clinton, Iowa, and Jim (Sherry) Thompson of Clinton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one sister, Gloria (Bob) Hill of Hiwasse, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Janet Comeau and Margaret “Muggs” Wagner; and two brothers, Courtland Greve and Truman Greve.
