Arlene F. (Schroth) Strautz, age 87 of Mt. Carroll, Il., died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday Mar.17, 2007 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Pastor Rick Zickefoose of the Mt. Carroll Church of God will officiate. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM.
Arlene was born July 16, 1919 in Pound, Wisc., the daughter of Raymond and Florence (Borden) Schroth. She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisc., and moved to Savanna, in the 1940's where she worked in the garment industry as a master seamstress. She married Marion "Mike" Strautz on Oct. 13, 1951 in Mt. Carroll, Il., where the couple later raised their family.Mike passed away on February 26, 2006.
Arlene belonged to the Mt. Carroll Church of God, was a member of the American Handicapped Association, and volunteered as a community liaison. She and her husband, Marion were also members of the Mt. Carroll American Legion and the Savanna Moose Lodge.
She enjoyed sewing all of her life, and was renowned as an exceptional tailor and seamstress to countless residents in the area. She also loved quilting and was a regular at the Senior Center in Mt. Carroll. Arlene was a fabulous cook, and in her free time, enjoyed jigsaw and Suduko puzzles, and Bingo. She dearly loved her family and spending time with them.
Survivors include one sister, Verne (Lawrence) Rupiper, of Suring, Wisc., one brother, Leonard Schroth, of Lyons, Il.; one daughter, Jeanne Strautz, of Lanark, Il.; two sons, Michael (Donna) Strautz, of Freeport, Il., and Gary (Steve Turek) Strautz, of Portsmouth, R.I.; and three grandchildren: Nicole, Kevin and Katherine.
She is preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two sisters, Dorothy and Florence, and three brothers Raymond, Calvin and Kenneth.
