April Joan Glazier

April Joan Glazier was a loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Friend to many. On September 11, 2023, at the young age of 49, she passed away after an extended but private battle with illness. Visitation with family, friends, and all who would love to attend will be held from 1 – 5pm Friday September 15th at Law Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, following with a Celebration of Life service held at 5pm also on Friday. A private family graveside service will follow the service. A memorial has been established for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.

April was born March 26, 1974, in Savanna IL, the daughter of Jerry and Sharon (Johnson) Matous. She grew up in Riverview learning to fish, swim and play along the banks of the Mississippi. A 1992 graduate of Thomson High School, she then went on to receive her Associate’s Degree at Clinton Community College. In 1993, April began dating the love of her life and soulmate, Scott Glazier, they were married March 17, 1998. They raised a son, Mitchell, whom she often claimed as her biggest achievement in life, and have been together 30 years, celebrating their 25th Anniversary earlier this year with a cruise in the Caribbean.

April’s life focused on happiness, family and caring for others. Her family, friends and workmates knew her as being thoughtful, loving, caring, honest and giving. These same values also applied to her work. She raised the ability and potential of anyone who walked into the room. April served as the Director of Specialty Clinics for MercyOne Health System in Clinton, Iowa. She even completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Management to make that leap from a Manager position within MercyOne. She had also worked for Genesis Health System and River Cities Internal Medicine prior to Mercy.

Making memories with family and friends was one of the most important parts of April’s life. She loved traveling with Scott and Mitchell. Her favorite spots included Alaska, Costa Rica and Hawaii, with Key West, San Francisco, Glacier National Park, and many others sprinkled in along the way. She always felt fortunate to be able to take these trips and spend this time with her family and friends. Her parents and in-laws were also a very important part of her life, especially during her illness. So many cared for her, yet it was always natural for April to care for others. She found ways to do this even as she needed care herself. She will be missed by many, and her spirit will carry on.

She leaves behind her dear family which includes, her husband, Scott Glazier of Thomson; her son Mitch of Thomson; her parents, Jerry (Sharon) Matous of Thomson; her mother-in-law, Janet Glazier of Galena; and three siblings, JR (Becky) Matous of Sabula, Iowa, Penny Kirschbaum of Burr Ridge, Illinois and Kelly (Doug) Jergenson of Virginia. She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Alvie Glazier, and all of her grandparents.
