Anthony “Tony” Joseph Skoff, age 67, of Preston, Iowa, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at his home. A funeral mass will held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Preston. A visitation will be held from 1:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, with a scripture wake service held at 12:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the church. A memorial has been established in Tony's memory.
Tony was born on September 15, 1947, the son of Francis and Germaine (Goettsch) Skoff in Clinton, Iowa. He attended Preston High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. Tony proudly served his country in the United States Army, while enlisted he was stationed in Vietnam. He married Linda Mootz on April 4, 1970 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston.
Tony was a lifetime truck driver, most recently driving for ADM Trucking, retiring in 2012. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Preston Legion, the AMVETS, and the Preston Fireman Association. Tony was the coordinator and pace tractor for the annual Preston tractor ride. Tony enjoyed telling jokes and performing card tricks for family and friends. He loved spending time with his family and was a shuttle service for his grandchildren and friends. Tony also enjoyed playing darts and cards, especially Rummy and Hearts.
Tony will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda; four children, Darlis “Bummer” (Marsha) Skoff of Preston, Darla (Kurt) Olson of Grand Mound, Iowa, Denise (Ron) Said of Preston and Delores “Lori” (Damon Lyons) Skoff of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Casey Skoff, Brock and Brady Olson, Devin and Caden Said and Aishah Lyons; his mother, Germaine (John) Lawrence of Maquoketa, Iowa; two brothers, Joe (Sue) Skoff of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and John (Ann) Skoff of Bellevue, Iowa; three sister Eunice O’Meara of Maquoketa. Iowa, Victoria (Archie) Fretts of Seattle WA, Nin (Doug) Flagel of Maquoketa Iowa, and in-laws, Vennetta Mootz of Preston, Betty (Jim) Portz of Springbrook, Iowa, Margaret Mootz of Preston, Jean (Gary) Horan of Charlotte, Iowa, Doris (Dean) Nolting of Preston, Karen (Terry) Rubel of Maquoketa, Mary (Dan) Rosas of Davenport, Iowa, Mark Mootz of Andrew, Iowa, and Gary (Gwen) Mootz of Chandler, Arizona.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Francis; one brother, Martin Skoff; his father in-law, Eugene Mootz; and one nephew, Travis Gerardy.
