Anthony “Tony” J. Lanza, age 83, of Lake Carroll, Illinois died on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Father Mike Bolger officiating. Tony was born on January 5, 1932, the son of Peter and Francis (Taormina) Lanza in Chicago, Illinois. Tony graduated from the Tilden High School in Chicago. He married Elizabeth “Bette” L. Herbick on August 15, 1954 at St. David Catholic Church, Chicago. Elizabeth died on November 12, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center, Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Tony served in the Army (Tank Co. 351st Infantry) during the Korean war. After being discharged, he worked in newspaper printing as a Pressman for Graphic Communications International Union – Local 7 in Chicago, retiring after 40 years of service. Tony was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Shannon, Illinois. He was also a member of the Tri-County Gun Club, the Tank Co. 351st Infantry Association, and a lifetime member of the NRA. Tony loved nature, especially fishing, hunting and gardening. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Tony is survived by one daughter, Judith (Joseph) Riley of Brookfield, Illinois; one son, David Lanza of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; five grandchilden, Brendan (Danette) Splon, Christopher Splon, Sean Riley, Matthew (Amanda) Riley, and Joseph Riley, Jr.; one great-grandson, Benjamin Riley; and one brother, Sam Lanza of Royal, Arkansas.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Joseph Lanza and Nick Lanza; and two sisters, Pauline Thomas and Jeanette Degleffetti.
