Anna Margaret Simmons

Anna Margaret Simmons, age 94, of Preston, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 03, 2008, at Bickford Cottages in Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston, with Reverend Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will follow at the Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 7, 2008, from 4 - 7 p.m. also at St. John's Evangelical Church, Preston. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Evangelical Church.
Anna was born January 4, 1914, in rural Clinton County, the daughter of John and Helen (Mattiesen) Mommsen. She graduated from Miles High School and attended the University of Iowa. She was a teacher in rural Clinton County.
Anna married Chester Simmons January 1, 1936. They farmed in rural Clinton County near Goose Lake, Iowa. After retiring, they moved to Preston. Anna was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston and the WELCA.
Anna is survived by two son's, Lawrence (Harriet) Simmons of Goose Lake, Iowa, and John (Colleen) Simmons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Peggy (Dale) Asmussen of Preston, and Roberta (Steve) Schuey of rural Clinton, Iowa; six grandchildren, fourteen great - grandchildren, and three great great - grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Mommsen of Miles, Iowa; and two sisters, Velma Petersen of Preston, and Fern Dosland of Clinton.
Anna was preceded in death her parents, her husband Chester, one son, Donald Simmons, one grandson - in - law, and one grandson.
