Anna "Ann" Marie Preston, age 85, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Cremation will follow. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in Ann’s memory.Ann was born on May 11, 1922 in Stockton, Illinois the daughter of Ambrose and Mary Rebecca (Darnell) Hill. Ann went to Country School near Stockton and then attended Stockton High School.During World War II Ann worked at Savanna Army Depot as an Ammunition Assembler. Ann began her restaurant career at Indian Head Supper Club; she later worked at Kate’s Bar and grill, which became Bimm’s Tavern. In 1956 she opened her own restaurant "The Track Side" which was near the old Milwaukee Railroad Depot. Ann worked for Graham’s Café located in the bottom of the Garment Factory. She owned and operated "Ann’s Café" for thirty years retiring in 2001. It was important to Ann that her customers were treated like her family. During her retirement Ann continued to bake homemade confections for special orders, as well as surprising her friends and family. (m-m-m good!) Ann was very fond of her flower gardens, planting unusual varieties and sharing her ideas. She was very honored to have her flower gardens on display in the Savanna Garden Walk.Most of all Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.Ann will be dearly missed by her children; Mary, Martha, Linda, Joseph, and Jeannine; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; a brother; Bob; and two sisters; Virginia and Doris.Ann was preceded in death by both parents; four grandchildren; one sister and three brothers.
