Amos E. Gates III, age 57, of Hanover, Illinois, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Reverend Lynn Matthews of Hanover United Methodist Church will officiate. A memorial fund has been established in his Amos’s memory.
Amos was born on November 13, 1950 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Amos E. and Beverly (Reidel) Gates Jr.. He attended school in Springfield, Illinois. Most recently, Amos was employed at Blacks Railroad Transit, where he transported railroad employees from destination to destination. He previously worked at Excel Automotive in Stockton, Illinois and as maintenance for the Carrollton Inn in Mount Carroll, Illinois. Amos loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, especially for catfish and carp. Amos also loved listening to music, he enjoyed music from the 50’s through the 80’s. Most of all, Amos cherished the time he spent with his family.
Amos will be dearly missed by his fiancé, Ericia A. Misenar of Hanover; two children, Amos E. Gates IIII and Victoria Marie Gates, both of Hanover; mother, Beverly Hahn of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one brother, Jim Gates of Milwaukee; sister, Cathy Skilling of Somerset, Kentucky; a half sister, Cindy Commbe of Springfield, Illinois; mother and father in-law, George and Emily Misenar of Stockton; two sisters in-law, Jennifer Upmann of Mount Carroll and Connie (Chad) Larson of Stockton, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. Amos was preceded in death by his father, Amos.
