Alvin Yaddof

Alvin Yaddof, age 88, of Preston, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, at The Alverno Nursing Facility, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. Burial will take place in Preston Cemetery, Preston. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established in Alvin’s memory for the family or for the Church.

Alvin was born October 6, 1928, the son of Elmer Sr. and Norma (Ruchotzke) Yaddof in Preston. He married Velma Steines on October 27, 1948, in Clinton, Iowa. They raised seven children and celebrated 64 years of marriage. Velma passed away in 2013.

Alvin worked at Collin Company in Clinton for many years. He also worked with honey bees for Oliver Meyer and later ran his own bee operation for 31 years. Alvin farmed north of Preston for over 50 years. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a volunteer fireman. He enjoyed golfing and trapping moles. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Alvin will be dearly missed by two sons, Leroy Yaddof and Michael (Lisa) Yaddof, both of Preston; four daughters, Barb (John) Dodd of Clinton, Iowa, Nancy (Jim) Derganz of Maquoketa, Iowa, Janet (Jon) Lee of Preston, and Debbie (David) Lee of Preston; a son-in-law, Terry Helmle of Preston; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Jr. (Carol) Yaddof of Preston; and a sister Lois (Larry) Hoffman of Preston.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma; daughter, Carol Helmle; granddaughter, Amy Derganz; great-twin-grandsons, Brayden and Tanner Parr; four brothers, Melvin, Everett, Norman “Chatter” and Bob; and one sister, Florence Yaddof.
