Alvin R. Libberton, age 90, of Savanna, Illinois died on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. Burial will take place in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011 prior to the service at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll. Memorials may be given to the Carroll County Good Samaritan in Alvin’s memory.
Alvin was born on May 12, 1921, the son of Will and Florence (Hicks) Libberton in Mount Carroll Township. He attended Mount Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. Alvin married Alverda Petersen on December 28, 1946 in Mount Carroll.
Alvin farmed in Carroll County for most of his life. He also worked for ALCO Manufacturing in Savanna. He enjoyed visiting and delivering produce to his neighbors from his garden. Alvin loved spending time with his family and friends.
Alvin will be dearly missed; one son Glenn Libberton of Savanna and one daughter, Betty Randall of Eagan, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Michael) Conlin of Spokane, Washington and Heather (Keith) Miller of South Elgin, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Katherine, Danielle, Devin and Eamon; and three brothers, Neil (Mary) Libberton of Mount Carroll, Cid (Norma) Libberton of Stockton, Illinois and Russ (Janet) Libberton of Savanna.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Alverda, five brothers, Peter, Lavelle, Clarence, Richard and Charles Libberton; and three sisters, Alicia Withart, Luella Skiles and Sarah Schmidt.
