Alvin L. Wagner, age 66 of Sabula, Iowa passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Al’s memory.
Al was born on December 17, 1951, the son of Leslie and Roberta (Gottschalk) Wagner in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended Clinton High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. He married Brenda Funk on October 12, 1985 in Sabula, Iowa.
Al was a Tool and Die Maker for International Paper in Clinton, Iowa, until retiring after thirty years in 2002. He later worked a few years in residential construction and for an additional ten years for MB Box Corporation in Fulton, before officially retiring in 2016. Al loved the outdoors, especially trotline fishing, boating and Morel mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a perfectionist at everything he did. Most of all, Al loved spending time with his family and friends and was well known for his famous fish fry.
Al will be dearly missed by his wife, Brenda of Sabula; two sons, Brian (Rebecca) Wagner of Milan, Illinois and Brandon (Kerie) Wagner of Clinton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Wagner, Brice (Megan Impens) Wagner, Natalee Wagner, and Easton Wagner; his first soon to be grandchild in December; his mother, Roberta Wagner of Clinton; two brothers, Ralph (Sharon Stephens) Wagner of Park hills, Missouri and Larry (Susie) Wagner of Sabula; two sisters, Pam Paschka of Clinton and Debbie Ehredt of Sabula; his mother in-law, Elaine Funk of Sabula; one sister in-law, Deb (Terry) Daniels of DeWitt, Iowa; two brothers in-law, Charlie (Kathy) Funk of Thomson and Michael (Margaret) Funk of Davenport, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Wagner; father in-law, George Funk; a sister in-law, Deborah Wagner; a brother in-law, Kevin Ehredt; and many aunts and uncles.
