Alta F. Spoerl, age 95, of Stockton, Illinois, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Lena Living Center, Lena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, with Rev. Harvey Nicholson officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with an 8:00 p.m. prayer service.
Alta was born May 25, 1917, in Woodbine, Illinois, the daughter of Frank J. and Elizabeth (Kuhse) Meyer Jr.. She was united in marriage to Erwin A. Spoerl on November 18, 1936, in Elizabeth. Erwin preceded her in death on August 1, 1988.
Alta was a homemaker who was a loving mother to five children. She and Erwin farmed in the Elizabeth area until retiring in 1981. Alta enjoyed making crafts and especially doing cross stitch and quilting.
Alta is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Yvonne Harper of Machesney Park, Illinois; four sons, Wayne (Helen) Spoerl of Gurnee, Illinois, Harvey (Janet) Spoerl of Elizabeth, Illinois, Lyle (Marie) Spoerl of Mabelvale, Arkansas, and Jerry (Marilyn) Spoerl of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great – great grandchildren.
Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Erwin A. Spoerl; two brothers, Arthur and Delbert Meyer; one sister Beatrice Gengenbach; one son – in – law, Jack Harper; and one great grandson, Cole Spoerl.
