Alta E. Hockman, age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna, Illinois with Reverend Philip Bigelow officiating. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Savanna Ambulance Association in Alta’s memory.
Alta was born on April 19, 1922 the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Haas) Haring. She attended Savanna area schools. Alta worked at General Electric in Morrison for twenty-seven years retiring in 1986. Alta was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer worker for Meals on Wheels in Savanna for many years. Alta enjoyed crafts, crossword puzzles, ceramics, cooking and baking. Most of all Alta enjoyed spending time with her family.
Alta will be missed by one son Terry (Deborah) Hockman of Savanna, Illinios; two daughters Linda Stricklin of Rock Falls, Illinois and Judy (Richard) Castro of Rock Falls, Illinois; six grandchildren Eric Castro, Todd Castro, Michael Hockman, Debra Popkin, Randy Stricklin and Chad Stricklin; nine great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sister-in-laws Gladys Haring of Polo, Illinois and Beulah Haring of Burlington, Iowa.
Alta is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Leland, Clarence, Walter, Earl and Roy; and one sister Irene Haring.
