Allen Wayne Tripp

Allen Wayne Tripp, age 90, of Sterling, IL, passed away at his home on April 24, 2023. A funeral service will be held at Hope United Methodist Church, in Chadwick, IL, on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10 a.m. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, as well as one hour prior to Saturday’s service. Burial will follow at Chadwick Cemetery.

Allen was born July 23, 1932 in Lanark, IL, the son of Floyd and Ida (Michael) Tripp. He attended Chadwick schools, graduating from Chadwick High School with the class of 1952, where he was a standout athlete. After high school he worked for Johnson’s Produce in Mt. Carroll. On August 7, 1955, Allen married Georgia Yenney.

Allen then went to work for the Chadwick cheese factory before spending seven years working for Jecklin Farms. He ultimately retired from Frantz Manufacturing after 32 years with them. But retirement wasn’t about to slow Allen down, as he continued to mow lawns and assist elderly folks with yardwork, and provided janitorial services for Chadwick Bank and the Chadwick sewer plant for years after his retirement.

Allen was quite the athlete and had a love for sports; something he passed on to his two boys. He and his sons would play basketball and baseball in the yard, and always came up with ways to play 3-player versions of their favorite sports. In his younger years, Allen participated in bowling and softball leagues and as he grew older he loved following local sports teams, and watching his Chicago Cubs and Bears, and playing with his grandchildren.

Allen will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Georgia; his children, Gregory (Lidea Hyles) Tripp, of Sterling, IL and Gena (David) Gonzales, of Sterling; grandchildren, Joseph Dane, Jr., Michael Dane, and Anna Dane; step-grandchildren, Ryan Gonzales and Erika (Matt) Pope; great-grandchildren, Gracie Scott and River Dane; and step great-grandchild, Lilah Pope. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ida; son, Gary Tripp; brothers, Charles Tripp, Kenny (Florence) Tripp, and Lyle Tripp; sisters, Irma (Bob) Williams, Bernadine (Bob) Messenger, and Mildred Tripp; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Viola Yenney.
