Allen Lewis Krum, age 76, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from pulmonary fibrosis at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Allen’s memory.
Allen was born to Lewis and Margaret (Erbsen) Krum on September 6, 1939 on the family farm near Harper, Illinois. He attended Pleasant Hill rural school, then attended Forreston High School where he graduated with the Class of 1957. Allen served his country in the United States Army Reserve for six years.
Allen married Erma Metz on September 15, 1962 at the Hickory Grove Methodist Church in Wacker, Illinois. He farmed with his dad until he and Erma moved to Carroll County in December 1965. They had a dairy operation on their farm, keeping them busy until the cows were sold in 1996. They switched to dairy beef and corn.
Allen especially loved his “M&M’s” as he referred to his grandchildren, Madison and Mason. He was a member of Hickory Grove Methodist Church.Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Erma; daughter, Kristine (John) Yakowicz of Pecatonica, Illinois; son Mark (Chris) Krum of Morrison, Illinois; two grandchildren, Madison and Mason; and one brother, Gary (Pat) Krum of Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Margaret Krum.
