Allen C.Van Brocklin was a farm boy, who loved being outside. Allen entered into eternity on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, at the age of 82. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren in rural Lanark, Illinois. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll.
Allen was born July 7, 1931, the son of Charles and Elsie (Shippy) Van Brocklin on the family farm rural Lanark. He attended Lanark High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. He married Catherine Butt on June 1, 1952 at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren with Reverend Merle Hawbecker.
Allen farmed all of his life. He raised livestock and planted crops. His true passion was tending to his sheep and watching them be born. He also worked for Moltman and Smith, which later became Bocker’s in Mt. Carroll as a mechanic and a handyman. He was a member of the FFA and Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren. Allen treasured his time traveling all over the United States and Canada, camping, scrapping metal, and going to farm auctions to visit his friends and neighbors, and attending Shannon’s Homecoming Parade to visit with Classmates.
Allen will be dearly missed by his wife, Catherine of Elizabeth, Illinois; four sons, John (Cindy) Van Brocklin of Mt. Carroll, Willie (Anita) Van Brocklin of Elizabeth, Eddie (Kathy) Van Brocklin of Mt. Carroll, Kevin Van Brocklin, Elizabeth; eight grandchildren, Amber, Allen, David, Dusty, Brandy, Marcianna, Patricia, Dustina; three great grandchildren, Sebastian, Xander, Ruth; one brother, Gary (Lisa) Van Brocklin of Freeport; two sisters, Shirley (Bing) Gossett of Romeoville, Illinois, and Sharon (Rex) Angle of Lanark. Allen is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alvin and his beloved dog Foxy.
