Allen “Alfie” Ray Belk, age 69, of Savanna, IL, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA. A celebration of Alfie’s life will be held for family and friends at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, IL from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 22.
Alfie was born March 10, 1949 in Savanna, IL, the son of Leonard and Emma (Olson) Belk. He married Diane (Neiss) and had three daughters. Later in life, Alfie married Pamela (Anderson) on October 30, 2005 in Savanna, IL.
Born and raised in Savanna, IL, Alfie graduated from Savanna High School in 1967. He went on to graduate from Highland Community College in Freeport, IL in 1970, with a degree in Auto Tech. Being a man of many talents, Alfie worked numerous jobs throughout his life. He began as a mechanic at John Krahn Chevrolet, before working for Milwaukee Road Railroad and Power Lab Factory. In 1983, Alfie began his career as a Police Officer; serving until an accident forced his early retirement from the force in 1991. Even in retirement, Alfie remained an active contributor to his community, operating as a Carroll County Dispatcher, small engine repairman, and co-owner, along with his wife, Pamela, of Kodiak’s Backwater Bait & Tackle.
Alfie served as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Savanna and was a proud member of the Mississippi Flyway Hunter’s Club. Always an avid hunter and fisherman, Alfie also enjoyed reading, woodworking, and later in life, gardening with his wife, Pamela. Alfie’s love for the outdoors was not limited to his sportsman’s activities. He and Pam, and whichever loved one would join, would spend hours driving the countryside admiring everything the natural world had to offer, from the numerous deer near the old Army depot, to the pristine beauty of a frozen waterfall.
Alfie will be dearly missed by his wife Pamela; 3 daughters, Yvette (Chris) Work of Rock Island, IL, Jennifer Belk of Mundelein, IL, and Jessica (Mike) Witt of Camanche, IA; two step-children, Charlie (Janel) Sedivy of Savanna, IL and Megan (Marc) Irvin of Chadwick, IL; seven grandchildren Chandler, Amber, Krystal, Jacob, Devon, Zane, and Ian; two step-grandchildren, Damian and Jaelynn; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Shirley) Belk of Yorktown, VA and Larry Belk of Moline, IL; and his faithful dog, Bella.
