Alice P. Moeller

Alice P. Moeller, age 82, of Preston, Iowa, passed away on May 4, 2024, at The University of Iowa Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preston, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a favorite cancer charity in remembrance of Alice.

Alice was born on February 21, 1942, on the family farm in New Liberty, Iowa, daughter of William and Lucy (Eserhaut) Scheper. In Davenport at The Col Ballroom, Alice met the love of her life, Lester Moeller. It was love at first sight. Alice and Lester married on March 1, 1959, and soon after they moved to the Moeller family farm northwest of Miles, Iowa. There, they cultivated a life of love and hard work, caring for the farm together, raising five children, and sharing 65 years of marriage.

Alice was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston and a gifted genealogist who spent countless hours tracing her family's roots. She was known for her boundless energy and the 'gift of the gab,' often engaging in long, heartfelt conversations with friends and loved ones over the phone. Later in life, Alice found joy in playing games like Chickenfoot and Sorry with her grandchildren and completing puzzles with her husband. She was a repository of old country remedies and homespun weather predictions, often accurately forecasting changes based on the calendar.

Above all, Alice was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always placing her family at the heart of her world. She imparted her wisdom on marriage and life, nurturing her children and grandchildren with love, discipline, and joy.

Alice will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Lester Moeller of Preston; four children, Carmen (Jason) Moeller-Oostenryk of Davenport, Bruce Moeller of St. Petersburg, FL, Pauline Putman of Houston, TX, and Paul (Gene) Moeller of Preston; one daughter-in-law Paula Moeller of Preston; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her son, Leon Moeller; her parents, William and Lucy; and her siblings, Elmer Scheper, Marvin Scheper, Leonard Scheper, and Helen Frahm.
