Alice J. Mills, age 90, of Savanna, Illinois, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 , at Bluff Terrace Mercy South in Clinton, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Reverend Larry Thomson of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna will officiate. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Savanna in Alice’s memory.
Alice was born on February 8, 1918, the daughter of Tracy and Daisy (Space) Freeman in Princeton, Iowa. She attended Muscatine High School and graduated with the Class of 1935. Alice married Osborn F. “Curly” Mills on November 16, 1935 in Rockford, Illinois. Osborn died on December 9, 1986 in Rockford.
Alice was employed by National Lock in Savanna, Structo Toys in Freeport, Illinois, and the Button Factory in Muscatine, Iowa. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and was a past Den Mother and Brownie Leader in Savanna. She was also active in the Savanna V.F.W., N.A.R.F.E., Halcyon Club, Senior Womens Club, United Methodist Circle, United Methodist Women, and the Savanna Ladies Bowling League. Alice enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, and needlework. She also enjoyed writing poetry about the outdoors and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Alice will be dearly missed by two sons, Kenneth (Mary) Mills of Holiday Island, Arkansas and Osborn Frank (Jill) Mills of Harvard, Illinois; one daughter, Jeanne (Dale) Etheridge of Clinton, Iowa; three grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; nineteen step-great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Leone) Freeman of Muscatine.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Osborn; three brothers; two sisters; and one daughter in-law, Jan Mills.
