Alice M. Gaffey, age 92 of Savanna, Illinois, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2006 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Father Moises Apostol will be Celbrant. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Memorials may be made to FHN Hospice in Alice’s name. Alice was born August 17, 1913 the daughter of Owen and Alice Geise in Clinton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Lyons High School in Lyons, Iowa. On November 21, 1936, Alice married T. Vincent Gaffey, that union brought forth two children. Family was most important to Alice; she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, but most of all her loving Vince. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Alice and Vince were partners in the Red & White Grocery Stores in Savanna and Fulton, Illinois until 1951. In 1950 they also began as dealers in Nutrilite Food Supplements. Around 1959 they began selling for the Amway Corporation. They owned one of the largest Amway organizations in the country, today known as Gaffey & Gaffey.
Alice will be deeply missed by her husband, Vince; her son, Thomas M. Gaffey of Savanna; her daughter, Mary Jo (Renny) Larson of Savanna; six grandchildren, Danell Friesner of Ankeny, Iowa, Diane (Jeff) Jones of Sibley, IL, Thomas (Johnna) McDonnell of Bloomington, IL, John (Sarah) McDonnell of Peoria, IL, Dana (Marty) Wood of Yorkville, IL. and Daneen (Chuck) Van Hyning, eight great-grandchildren, Amber (Sterling) Daniels of Ankeny, IA, April Friesner of Savanna, Joe Jones of Sibley, IL, Jessica Jones and Jimmy Jones of Sibley, IL., Loren Wood of Yorkville, IL, Eden Van Hyning of Yorkville, IL, and Maddie McDonnell of Bloomington, IL; two great-great grandchildren, Aliyah Friesner of Ankeny, IA and Taryn Daniels of Ankeny, IA.
Alice was preceded in death by one son in-law, Tom McDonnell; one daughter in-law, Debbie Gaffey; one granddaughter, Darcy McDonnell and one great great grandson, Dusty Freisner.
