Aleda Mae Lohmeier, age 89, of Sabula, IA passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 in her home with her family by her side. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Law Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, IL at 12 noon. Visitation will take place from 10am to 12 noon prior to the service. There will be a luncheon following the service at the VFW in Sabula, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded, with inurnment occurring at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, in Sabula, on Friday July 1. Aleda was born May 29, 1933 in Spragueville, IA, the daughter of August and Iola (Schmidt) Franzen. She attended Sabula schools. On August 9, 1959, Aleda married Robert Lohmeier. They celebrated 36 years of marriage before Robert’s passing in 1996. Over the years, Aleda worked numerous jobs including as a secretery, waitress, and bartender. But her most important job was as a wife, mother and homemaker.
Aleda was all about family. She adored time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a true people person who was rarely alone; much preferring the company of friends and family. In her free time she enjoyed fishing, cards (especially euchre), and just driving her golf cart around Sabula. She was a member of the Sabula VFW and a great cook!
Aleda will be dearly missed by six daughters, Sherry (Jim) Logsdon, of Clarence, IA, Raye Lee (James) Goethals, of Bennett, IA, Lauren Kay (Ronald) Tappan, of Texas, Dawn (Jim) Phillips, of Sabula, Dee Von (Lee) Tappan, of Oklahoma, and Bobbi (Tim) Schuelka, of Tipton, IA; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Sandra Jepsen, of Sabula. Aleda is preceded in death by her parents, August and Iola; husband, Robert; daughter, Rhonda Hightower; son, Mitchell (infant); four brothers, Nolan Franzen, Gaylen Franzen, Terrell Franzen, and Lyndell Franzen; three sisters, Lynanne Metz, Lynelle Doerman, and Sharon Jess; and lifelong friend Larry Papke.
