Alan Kay Hickey, age 70 of Thomson, Illinois, died on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Cremation Rites will be accorded. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Friends are invited to join the family from 3:00-6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Tipton Auction House, Thomson. A memorial fund has been established in Alan’s memory
Alan was born on October 15, 1944, the son of Eldon and Lois (Carroll) Hickey in Pasco, Washington. He attended York Community High School, Thomson and graduated with the Class of 1962. Alan proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Marla Eslinger on October 7, 1967 in the York Baptist Church, Thomson.
Alan worked on the ground crew for the Milwaukee Railroad and later the C.P. Railroad for over thirty years before retiring. He was a member of the Thomson American Legion, the Morrison V.F.W., and the Eagles Club, Clinton, Iowa.
Alan loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. He treasured spending time with his friends and drinking his morning coffee with the guys at the Thomson Station. Most of all, Alan cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.Alan will be dearly missed by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Marla; two daughters, Andrea Williams of Thomson and Dawn Howard of Fulton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Kendra and Jace Williams and Clayton and Connor Howard; and one sister. Alan was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
