Aimee C. Bishop, age 93, of Dubuque, formally of Elizabeth, IL died on September 8 at the Hawkeye Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 12 at the United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 11, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth and one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday. Memorials given in Aimee’s name will be directed to the Elizabeth Historical Society.
Aimee was born on November 26, 1923, the daughter for Forrest and Emma (Jahncke) Dinsmore in Galena, IL. She attended the Galena schools and graduated with the class of 1941. She worked for the federal Office of Price Administration (Rationing Board) during World War II. After the war she attended the Dubuque Beauty Academy and became a licensed beauty operator. She operated a beauty shop from home and later on Main Street in Elizabeth. She married Irwin Bishop on June 20, 1953 at the First Presbyterian Church in Galena. Thereafter, she made her home in Elizabeth. After homemaking for two decades she joined her husband as a Main Street merchant at Bishop’s Busy Big Store in Elizabeth. She and her husband Irwin were known throughout the county and region as kind and generous public servants. Aimee was a talented pianist who played the piano daily to the great joy of her family. She was also an avid cross word puzzle worker and flower gardener. Her life centered on her family.
Aimee will be deeply missed by her two sons, Dr. David Bishop of Decorah, Iowa and Gary Bishop of Dubuque, Iowa; her goddaughter Diane Hall of Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Forrest Bishop (Rebecca Dykstra) of Cincinnati, OH, Meredith Bishop of Atlanta, GA, Adam (Kimberly) Bishop of Dubuque, Iowa, Adrianne (Cyle) Courtney of Cresco, Iowa, Anya Bishop (Jeff Shinrock) of Des Moines; six great grandchildren; Kirsten and Megan Basten of Dubuque, Iowa, Gage Bishop of Dubuque, Iowa, Carter, Chloe, and Cash Courtney of Cresco, Iowa. Aimee was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Doris Callis and Elaine Heim, her brothers James Dinsmore and Forrest Carl Dinsmore, and her husband Irwin.
