Adele “Del” B. Bowden, age 93, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna, with Father Moises Apostol as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601 in Del’s memory.
Del was born on October 22, 1922 in Savanna, the daughter of Attilio and Uliana (Mori) Vannini. She attended St. John the Baptist School in Savanna and Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. On April 29, 1950 Del married the love of her life Donald L. Bowden in Savanna. Don passed away August 11, 1990. She worked for the Savanna Army Depot and Eaton Corporation. Del treasured being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Del was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Del enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader, playing cards and bingo. Most of all, Del loved the time she spent with her family and friends.
Del is survived by her three daughters, Kathy (Bob) Best of Burke, Virginia, Karen Kline of Carbondale, Illinois, Karla (Bob) Hickey of Andover, Minnesota; eight grandsons, Christopher Hickey, Jeremiah (Lauren) Best, Brian (Nicole) Kline, Kevin Kline, Jonathan Hickey, Ryan Hickey, Matthew Hickey and Aaron Kline; three great granddaughters, Mariah Hickey, Madison and Parker Kline; a sister, Sue Haffey of Chillicothe, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. Del was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Phil and John Vannini; a sister, Eve Engles; two infant siblings; a son-in-law, Greg Kline and a half-sister, Lena Morgano.
