Virginia Turnbaugh, age 93, of Mt. Carroll, IL, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 in her home. A private funeral service will be held, with burial taking place in Lanark Cemetery. A public celebration of life will be held at the Chadwick American Legion Hall from 3pm to 7pm, on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Memorials may be made to FHN Hospice. Virginia was born May 15, 1928, in Fairhaven Township, Chadwick, IL, the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Heide) Miller. On September 15, 1946, Virginia married Elwyn Turnbaugh at Fairhaven Church.
Virginia found her calling as a homemaker and farmer's wife with her husband, Elwyn. She farmed with her dear husband for 40 plus years until they retired in 1988. Taking care of her family was her favorite part of life. She would sew and crotchet clothing and other items for her children and grandchildren and was always the first to volunteer to babysit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also greatly enjoyed gardening.
Virginia will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Mary Ann Turnbaugh of Mt. Carroll, Patricia (David) Diercks of Low Moor, Iowa, and Connie (Stephen) Brown of German Valley, IL; two sons, Gregory (Shirley) Turnbaugh of Mt. Carroll IL and Douglas (Terrie) Turnbaugh, of Thomson IL; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jane Swearingen; brother-in-law, Marvin Turnbaugh. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel; husband, Elwyn; infant daughter, Kandis; three brothers, John (Judy) Miller, Glenn (Mary) Miller, and William Miller; two sisters, Grace (Harry) Appel and Mabel (Russell) Klitz; sister-in-law, Sylvia Turnbaugh.
