Shirley Mae Vicks, age 87, of Sabula, Iowa passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton, Iowa. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Sabula. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 at Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Shirley was born on February 12, 1931, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Martin and Gladys (Molter) Dickinson. She graduated Sabula High School with the Class of 1948. On October 28, 1950, Shirley married James Vicks. They celebrated 34 years of marriage until James’ passing.
Shirley was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family. She also worked at Products Unlimited for 14 years until retiring in 2001. She was a member of the St. Peter’s Altar & Rosary Society. Shirley was a great baker and an excellent cook. She enjoyed selling her baked goods which included pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and buns. She also enjoyed playing cards, going to card parties, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles. She especially cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and attending family gatherings.
Shirley will be dearly missed by her son, Jim (Jean) Vicks of Clinton, Iowa; three daughters, Sue (Don) Naeve of Sabula, Iowa, Lisa (Terry) Mathiesen of Anamosa, Iowa, and Angie Kampe of Clinton, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James; a brother, Larry Dickinson, two sisters, Verna Donahue and Lois Greenfield; a son in-law, Michael Kampe, and a daughter in-law, Sara Vicks.
