Robert F. Tautz

Robert F. Tautz, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, died on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at St. Anthony O.S.F. Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. Cremation Rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A gathering will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Robert’s memory.

Robert was born on February 14, 1931, the son of Frederick and Mina (Johnston) Tautz in Mt. Carroll. He graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1949 and later attended the University of Illinois. Robert was a steward of the land and farmed on the family farm his entire life. Robert loved his farm dogs and always dreamed of flying. Robert lived for reading the Wall Street Journal and sharing his family history with others. He was also known to speak his mind, especially when talking about politics. Robert also enjoyed taking road trips across the United States with close friends.

Robert is survived by two brothers, John (Betty) Tautz of Mt. Carroll and Herb (Dana) Tautz of Mt. Carroll; five nieces and nephews, Karl (Shelly) Tautz, Lisa (Jeff) Smith, Laurie Tautz-Marx, Martha Barnett, and Erich (Lisa) Tautz; seven great nieces and nephews; and two close friends, Allen Swift and Rick Oviatt.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Eleanor Brown.
