Paul G. Kallemeyn, age 74, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017, at his home. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna, with military rites conducted by Savanna VFW Post #2223. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Savanna V.F.W. in Paul’s memory.
Paul was born March 15, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of George and Lucille (Dirks) Kallemeyn. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964, where he was commended for his support during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the fall of 1962. He attended Savanna High School and earned his GED while enlisted in the United States Navy. On April 8, 1967, he married Helen Louise Snow in Savanna, and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Paul worked at the Savanna Army Depot, working his way up to Maintenance Foreman before retiring in 1993. He was a former member of the Savanna Presbyterian Church. Paul enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping on the river. He also loved playing pool, riding motorcycles, and traveling through the United States with his wife, Louise, in their fifth-wheel.
Paul will be dearly missed by his wife, Louise; four children, Ronald (Denell) Kallemeyn of Williston, North Dakota, Thomas (Carolyn) Kallemeyn of Jacksonville, Florida, Robert (Kristine) Kallemeyn of DeWitt, Iowa, and Rebecca (David Weissmiller) Lenz of Lena, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Etta Leese and Mary Lundy.
