Muriel J Goos

Muriel J. Goos, age 93, passed away Sunday at Alverno, Clinton, IA. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the First United Presbyterian Church, Miles, IA. A reception will follow in the basement of the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, Miles and the Nature Conservancy for the benefit of Iowa.
Muriel was born March 13, 1918 on the family farm in Mt. Alger, Iowa about two miles north of Miles, Iowa. She was the first daughter of Ralph and Minna (Andersen) Watts. Muriel graduated from Miles High School, Class of 1935. Muriel married Robert "Bob" W. Matthiesen on December 25, 1938. She and Bob worked the family farm south of Miles (a Century Farm) until Bob passed away in 1979. Muriel married Harold A. Goos on July 14, 1981 and lived with Harold in Sabula. Harold passed away May 18, 2002. Muriel continued to live in Sabula until 2008, when she moved to Clinton.
Muriel was a lifetime member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Miles. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and the Miles Literary Club.
Muriel is survived by her sister, Ruth Spurlin of Union, IA, her daughter, Linda (John) Allen of Colorado Springs, CO, four grandchildren, Joel (Lynn) Matthiesen of Monrovia, CA, Seth (Jennifer) Roby of Centennial, CO, Anne Roby of Colorado Springs, and Lee Roby of Farmington, MO, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Bob Matthiesen,Harold Goos, her son, Ralph, her sister, Jean, her parents, and two daughters, Jean and Anne.
