LaVerne A. Reckinger, Sr. age 86 of Savanna, Illinois died Monday, December 9, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Burial will take place in Marywood Catholic Cemetery, Aurora, Illinois.
LaVerne was born on February 23, 1927, the son of Anthony and Louise (Frantzen) Reckinger in Aurora. He attended Marmion Military Academy. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy “Seabees”. LaVerne married Patricia Ann Murphy on November 3, 1973. Patricia passed away in 1991.
LaVerne served 47 years as a volunteer fireman for the Marywood Fire Dept. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #0084, Batavia, Illinois VFW Post 1197 and the Local 150 Operating Engineers Union.
LaVerne will be dearly missed by his three daughters, Marsha (Kary) Roe, Diane Drebenstedt, Rose Marie Wakefield; two sons, Joseph (Barb) Solt, Paul Solt; two granddaughters Sarah (Jay) Dodours, and Megan Roe; and one niece, Christine (Merle) Haring.
LaVerne is preceded in death by his first wife, Delores (Sellen) Reckinger; second wife, Patricia, his son, Vietnam War veteran, LaVerne A. Reckinger, Jr., and his parents Anthony and Louise Reckinger.
