James "Jim" Quest

August 10, 1931 — December 29, 2018

James “Jim” Quest, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Alpine Fireside Nursing Home in Rockford, Illinois. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019 at Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., prior to the memorial service at the church. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in Chadwick Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hope Methodist Church, 79 Snow St., Chadwick, Illinois 61014 or the Chadwick Ambulance Association in Jim’s memory.

Jim was born on August 10, 1931, the son of William J. and Ruth (Senneff) Quest in Freeport, Illinois. Jim grew up in the community of Chadwick and later attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he received his degree in accounting in 1953. After graduation, Jim served as past President for banks in Port Byron, Illinois and Pearl City, Illinois. Jim also served as an Examiner with the Commissioner of Banks and Trust Companies for the state of Illinois.

Jim was a quiet man who lived alone, but had a great love and dedication to his family and community. He was a lifelong member of the Chadwick Masonic Lodge #867 and a dedicated member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. Jim’s interests included the stock market and agriculture, which he dedicated many hours of reading. He enjoyed travels to Australia, New Zealand, China, Scotland , Ireland and his most recent trip to the Panama Canal. He also enjoyed walking and sharing meals with his family and friends. Jim is cherished by his family for his love, generosity and humor. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and will be greatly missed.

Jim will be dearly missed by his sister, Elizabeth Dickinson; two nieces, Jane Dickinson and Sarah Dickinson Bailey (Michael Bailey); one nephew, Andrew Dickinson; a great niece, Isabel Hernandez; and two great nephews, Noah and Matthew Bailey. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Quest.
